About passportvisapic
passportvisapic.com is a free passport and visa photo tool that works in your browser, checks your photo against the official rules, and never uploads it.
What the site does
Pick a document, upload or take a photo, and the photo tool crops it to the official size, head height and eye line, handles the background, checks it against the document’s rules and gives you a digital photo for online applications and a print sheet for paper ones. Around the tool, every document has a page with its rules, there are guides on taking the photo at home and with a phone, price comparisons for shop photos, and three free travel tools: a Schengen 90/180 calculator, a UK ETA checker and a passport validity checker.
Why we built it
A passport photo is a few cents of photo paper, yet a photo from a shop costs several dollars or pounds, and a photo of your face is personal data you may not want to send to a server you know nothing about. We wanted a tool that is:
- Free: no payment, no watermark, no account, at any step.
- Private: your photo is processed by your own browser and never leaves your device. The privacy page explains what that means in practice.
- Checked, not just cropped: the tool measures your photo against the published rules and shows the measurements on the preview, so you can see why a photo passes or what to fix. The how it works page describes every step.
How we keep the rules right
Every document’s rules come from the issuing authority’s own pages: the U.S. Department of State and USCIS, GOV.UK, the Government of Canada, the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs, Australian and Indian government sources, and the embassies and consulates that publish visa photo rules. Each document page lists its sources and the date we last checked them.
When we cannot open an official source, we do not guess. That is why the Japanese visa photo is not in the tool yet, and why shop prices we could not read say “not published online”. If you spot a rule that has changed, please tell us with a link to the official page.
What we do not do
- We do not upload, store or look at your photos.
- We do not beautify, smooth or retouch faces: an edited face is a common reason for rejection.
- We do not sell anything, and we are not a visa or passport agency. To apply, use the official government service; our pages link to it.
- We are not affiliated with any government, passport office or photo shop. See the disclaimer.
How the site is paid for
Today the site costs only its hosting. It may show ads in the future to cover that cost; the tools will stay free, and ads will never appear inside the photo tool. The privacy page will say what an ad company collects before any ad is shown.
Who runs passportvisapic
passportvisapic.com is an independent project. It is not run, funded or endorsed by any government, passport office, photo shop or app maker. You can reach the people behind it at the address on the contact page.
